Ted Gregoire came close to committing in late July, planning one for his birthday, but the lingering thought of attending Vanderbilt stayed with him and prevented Jersey City, NJ-based Catholic linebacker Hudson from making his choice.

Grégoire, 6’5″ and 275 pounds, wanted to see other schools after a June official visit to Rutgers, and it proved fruitful for him and the Commodores: he put off his decision until Saturday.

He is now in Vanderbilt’s class. He announced his commitment to the school by selecting the Commodores from a group of finalists that also included Rutgers, Syracuse, Penn and Tulane.

“I decided to commit to Vanderbilt because my family and I felt it was the best of both worlds with a very good education and playing in possibly the best conference that has produced the most drafts in the last 10 years,” Gregoire said. . “I make a decision for 40 years.”

The commodores hired Grégoire to move around the defensive line. He said this in an interview with the coach. Clark Lee and defensive line coach Larry Blackit would be used as a defensive end and in the interior.

During his visit to campus in late March, he felt at ease and comfortable talking to both of them.

“They are both good people,” Gregoire said. “Coach Black and I had a good talk and we had a very good relationship. The conversation with Coach Lea was great and (Gregoire loves it) he has a vision for me and Vanderbilt.”

However, it wasn’t just Lea and Black that impressed Grégoire during his time on campus.

“The conversations I had there with four or five coaches (stand out),” he said. “The speech I heard from Coach Leah honestly made me feel like I can be great here because of how eager people, both coaches and players, are to change the program.”

Gregoire is the 14th member of the Vanderbilt class and second lineman. Tulsa (OK) Union linebacker De’Marion Thomasdone in mid-June.
