On Thursday, Jones posted a video of a recent on-court workout with longtime trainer Brandon Gibson. The ex-champ went bare-handed and touted his willingness to make his long-awaited heavyweight debut.

“Right now I’m exactly where I need to be, I’m excited to see myself in a few months when things really start to pick up,” Jones wrote. “A sense of sharpness in all directions.”

Jones, 35, has been preparing for his debut in the big man division for more than two years, although his future in the octagon has not always been clear. After relinquishing his light heavyweight title due to a UFC contract dispute, he focused on bulking up and stayed on the sidelines as he changed managers and worked behind the scenes on his next career move.

None of this kept Jones off social media, where he applauded critics and reminded fans of his stellar 205-pound run.

This year, talk of a Jones comeback has flared up following the resolution of a home battery case that put his return on hold. He is expected to take on former champion Stipe Miocic in his heavyweight debut, although a date has yet to be set.

Jones left his longtime Jackson-Vink MMA Academy camp after being arrested in a battery case; the ex-champ has worked with various trainers and has been visiting gyms such as Fight Ready to work with former champion Henry Cejudo. He is currently affiliated with Jackson’s MMA Gym Acoma in his adopted hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
