Video: UFC 284 cold open highlights Islam Makhachev’s dominance, Alexander Volkanovski’s challenge

History is at stake when the UFC returns to Australia on Saturday.

On Friday, the UFC released UFC 284 cold open video. The card depicts a lightweight title fight between the champion Islam Makhachev (23-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) and featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovskiy (25-1 MMA, 12-0 UFC).

Makhachev will put his title on the line for the first time; he hasn’t lost in over seven years. Volkanovski, who will be in contention for a second concurrent title, has been undefeated in almost 10 years.

In addition, they will fight for the interim featherweight title. Yair Rodriguez (14-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) and Josh Emmet (18-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) with Volkanovski in search of a second lightweight belt.

A video with actor and regular UFC announcer Ron Perlman details two title fights for the promotion’s first visit to Perth in five years.

UFC 284 will take place on Saturday at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. The main card airs on pay-per-view after prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.
