Vols make another great impression on TE Dillon Hipp

Desired tight end Dillon Hipp On Thursday, he kicked off his five-city tour with a return trip to Tennessee, which could very well be an important part of his hiring process.

Three-star prospect from Scottsdale, Ariz. Desert Mountain was in Knoxville last off-season and made Rocky Top its first out-of-region visit this year, once again setting foot on campus to see what volunteers have to offer.

“My visit began in the late afternoon, I had a photo shoot, and then a meeting with the coach. Alec Abeln and coach David Wicks in his office and discussed how they would use me in their system and how important it is to be an all-around tight end,” Hipp said. “I was also able to meet with the coach Josh Hupel again and must make up for lost time.”

According to 247Sports, Hipp is ranked 30th in the nation’s tight end rankings and 13th among Arizona state prospects in the class of 2024. He is among the very good players in his position in the West and should definitely be one to watch ahead of the spring evaluation period.

Louisville (March 10), Ole Miss (March 11), Alabama (March 12) and Auburn (March 13) are set to stretch their feet at the 6-foot 6-foot 230-pound prospect in the coming days.

Oxen has been building a relationship with the athlete for about a year, and Hipp said he is very comfortable with the program as he begins to sort out possible official visits.

“Because I was already there last summer, we just hung out and dined by the river most of the time,” Hipp said. “Overall it was a great trip back.”

Asked if the Wolves had done enough to justify another look at the official visit, Hipp replied that “for now, yes.”

In 12 games as a junior last season, Hipp was credited with 28 receptions for 328 yards and four touchdowns. In his second year, he also made a great contribution to the stage.

Twenty-eight programs joined in the chase for Hipp, whose stock rose throughout January while the coaches were on the road, putting the finishing touches on the previous hiring cycle.
