Former Pride FC middleweight champion and mixed martial arts legend. Wanderlei Silva entered the political arena in Brazil.
Silva announced on social media on Thursday that he is running for “Federal MP for Paraná, one of the 26 states of Brazil. The 46-year-old Curitiba native wants to continue fighting for the people as a representative.
“Now officially: I am a candidate for federal deputies!
I made this decision because many people complain about our country, many say that everything is going wrong here, that nothing is working.
To change this scenario, I am running as a federal candidate for the State of Paraná.
Our state has never represented an athlete in good standing, and I want to be that person.
I want to come to Brasilia and bring dignity to our sport, work to make it a strong tool for social inclusion.
I am proof of what sport can do for young people and I know that we can change the lives of many.
Outside of sports, I will fight for a strong, efficient public safety that values its professionals.
I count on you, always count on me” Silva wrote on social media.
Silva last fought under the Bellator MMA banner in September 2018. He fought nine times in the UFC octagon after becoming an international superstar with Pride FC in Japan.
