On June 7, Portland Trail Blazers guard Josh Hart shared a little secret with the world – he lost his AirPods. A lot of.
Hart first responded to the tweet by asking a simple question: “Isn’t it scary to buy a second pair of Airpods so that I can listen to them while my first pair is charging while traveling?”
Hart replied that it was acceptable, especially if you lose one. I have had too many AirPods. But exactly how much was not revealed until his next tweet.

This list has grown quite a bit since this tweet, and it also didn’t show how many devices Hart actually has. Final tally: There are 26 Bluetooth headphones connected to his phone.
Hart had nine regular AirPods, two AirPod Max headphones, five AirPod Pros (at least one new pair since June), six Beats Studios, three Beats Powerbeats Pro, and one labeled “New Airpods.”
“Whatever it is, AirPod,” Hart said.
Hart revealed that he now travels with two extra sets of AirPods – one Max and one Pro – in case he loses one. It almost happened Wednesday night in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“I lost my case yesterday,” Hart said. “Luckily our security dude found it.”
“I don’t know,” Hart said. “I just got on the plane and I was like, ‘Damn, I lost him.
Hart said one of the security personnel took them to the plane and asked if the suitcase belonged to anyone on the team. Of course they belonged to Hart.
Hart added that most of his teammates are now aware of his habit of losing their devices.
“Most of them probably figured out if it’s headphones, they probably know it’s mine,” Hart said.
So how does Hart lose most of them? He really doesn’t know. It could be leaving them in the locker rooms. It could be intentionally destroying them. This has happened at least once.
In Denver on Christmas Day 2019, Hart warmed up before a game by doing his usual shooting routine. After several misses from three-point range, Hart became disillusioned with his Beats Studios and sent them to the court. He calmly picked them up, threw them in the trash can, and continued training.
However, Hart hopes that new technology will reduce the number of lost AirPods.

“That was before they had Find My iPhone, Find My AirPods and all that stuff,” Hart said. “Now that they’ve got it, I’m sure it will probably be a little better.”
Hart and his longtime girlfriend Shannon Phillips got married last summer ahead of the 2021-22 NBA season. Does she know that he buys a lot of new AirPods in case he loses more? She could now.
“I just don’t tell her,” Hart said. “I just go and buy [them]. That’s about it. I’m buying [them] but she just doesn’t know. She doesn’t keep track of things.”
