EASTBORN, England (AP) — Serena Williams’ competitive preparation for Wimbledon will consist of two doubles matches.
Injury to the right knee of Williams’ doubles teammate Once Jabert led them to pull out of the Eastbourne grass court tournament, the WTA said on Thursday. They were due to play Magda Lynette and Alexandra Krunic in the semi-finals after winning two matches on the south coast of England.
Williams is returning after a nearly year-long hiatus from tennis.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion has qualified for the Wimbledon singles tournament starting on Monday.
Jaber takes 3rd place in singles. There was no immediate news about the severity of her injury.
