Group D of the 2022 World Cup looks pretty simple on paper as France, Denmark, Australia and Tunisia face each other.

However, both Australia and Tunisia could be very tough opponents for the European powers.

France and Denmark are both expected to advance to the round of 16 (France easily dealt with Australia in the first leg) as the defending champions have Kylian Mbappe in the lead as injuries have taken their toll on their attacking group. As for Denmark, they showed their qualities to reach the semi-finals of UEFA EURO 2020 and did well in qualifying in Europe.

Denmark also recently beat France in the UEFA Nations League and will play them shortly before this World Cup as the two teams know each other very well and both enjoy going far in Qatar.

The Aussies hate to play and will sit back, frustrate opponents and look dangerous on the counter. As for Tunisia, they did well last time in the AFCON tournament (reached the quarter-finals), but they look like the weakest of the teams in this group.

World Cup favorites Brazil start their campaign and continue their campaign facing dark horse Serbia in Group G.

Neymar was joined by Gabriel Jesus, Anthony, Vinicius Junior, Rafinha, Richarlison and Rodrigo in a stacked Brazilian attack as many lean Tite’s team to victory in Qatar. They have a great mix of youth and experience and after having come face to face with Argentina in South America over the past few years, we now see how good this Brazilian team is.

Serbia also has a great talent pool and is considered by many to be the dark horse of this tournament. Led by hot forward Aleksandar Mitrovic and point guard captain Dusan Tadic, this Serbian team has players who can make something out of nothing. If they can stay in the tail, maybe they will be the surprise of the whole tournament?

Key storylines, players to keep an eye on

Where do we even start with Brazil? The aforementioned strikers are in the spotlight and Tite will be very busy trying to keep all of his superstar strikers happy. On the other side of the field, Alisson is the best goalkeeper in the world and the experience and partnership of Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, with Casemiro sitting up front, will be hard to break.

Serbia crashed out of the group stages of the last World Cup (they lost 2-0 to Brazil in a tight game), but they still played very well and are a lot of fun to watch. From Tadić pulling the strings to Mitrovic intimidating defenders, then Dušan Vlahović and Luka Jović, other attacking threats, and Sergej Milinković-Savic, show manager in midfield, if all their stars are fit and in great shape, Serbia will tolerate defeat.

England and the US will face off in Group B of the World Cup in a huge game with so many storylines twisted around and Gregg Berhalter’s young team needs to be upset.

[ MORE: Projected starting lineup for USA vs England ]

Whenever the US and England meet, there are so many narratives that come up and this will be no exception.

After a 1-1 draw against Wales in the first leg of the World Cup, all is not lost. However, it was a disappointing result after dominating the first half and the US needs at least a point against England to qualify for their last group game against Iran with a good chance of reaching the round of 16.

As for England, Gareth Southgate’s team dominated their 6-2 win over Iran to start their Group B campaign and they will want to secure a place in the round of 16 as soon as possible. Their defense did look a bit shaky against Iran, so let’s see if the USMNT can spot any weaknesses.
