Poland and Argentina certainly didn’t plan to qualify for the World Cup Group C decider as their play-off status is in question, but Qatar did.

Poland remains undefeated in Qatar after beating Saudi Arabia 2-0 in Al Rayyan, adding the point it earned in a goalless draw with Mexico in Doha to top the group ahead of Wednesday’s match.

LIVE STREAM POLAND – ARGENTINA

Argentina, meanwhile, recovered from a 2-1 opening loss to Saudi Arabia in Lusail and fell 2-0 to Mexico after a goal and assist from Lionel Messi.

Saudi Arabia’s three points mean they can still move forward with a victory over Mexico that could add one more point to them. So everyone is alive in group C.

Key storylines, players to keep an eye on

The storyline of every game against Argentina in this tournament from now on – and in fact since the preparation for the match with Mexico – is that any defeat means the end of Lionel Messi’s World Cup career (at least according to living legend ). Albicelesta would be happy to get something more from Lautaro Martinez while Paulo Dybala has yet to make his debut in the tournament.

Robert Lewandowski finally scored a goal in the World Cup and Piotr Zielinski played very well for Poland. Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny made a splash in the victory over Saudi Arabia.

World Cup titles: 0
World Championship appearances: 8
How they qualified: withdrew from UEFA via the play-offs, path B.

Key players: Robert Lewandowski, Wojciech Szczesny, Piotr Zielinski.

Argentina Quick Facts

Coach: Lionel Scaloni
Key players: Lionel Messi, Angel de Maria, Lautaro Martinez.

Mexico needs a win to have hope of reaching the World Cup playoffs, while Saudi Arabia’s hopes of making it to the final 16 may require the same at the 974 Stadium in Doha on Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia stunned Argentina 2-1 in Lusail to open the tournament, but failed to repeat the feat against Poland at Education City in Al Rayyan on Saturday, scoring three points from two matches.

LIVE SAUDI ARABIA vs MEXICO

Mexico remains without a win after their goalless draw with Poland resulted in a loss to Argentina in a Lionel Messi-inspired Lusail.

Key storylines, players to keep an eye on

Saudi Arabia was arguably the funniest non-power team in the tournament, always running and showing exceptional goalkeeping. Salem Al-Dawsari was very good in both games, but his missed penalty before half-time against Poland seems like a big…
