Yankees inform MLB they want to play in first major league games in Paris

The New York Yankees have told Major League Baseball that they would like to be involved when the league plays its first games in Paris in 2025. according to the Associated Press. The Los Angeles Dodgers have previously shown interest in games in Paris..

“This is great. Sounds pretty exciting.” Yankees ace Gerrit Cole told The Associated Press.. “It will be a really special opportunity.”

As part of a new collective bargaining agreement, MLB and the MLB Players Association have agreed to host a series of games at the international level, and Paris is included in the list of destinations. The games in Paris are scheduled for June 2025. MLB also plans to host games in the Dominican Republic, London, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Paris and the Dominican Republic are new destinations.

Games in Paris will be played at the Stade de France, an 80,000-seat stadium that opened in 1998 and is home to the French national football and rugby teams. In 2019, the Yankees and the Boston Red Sox played two games in London. These were the first MLB games in Europe and were played at the London Stadium, another converted football facility.

MLB has not played any games outside of the US or Canada since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The league expects to return to London in 2023. MLB has also previously played regular season games in Australia, Japan, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.

The NBA held a game in Paris in January 2020 and will return in 2023. Paris will also host the 2024 Summer Olympics.
