Yankees’ Marwin Gonzalez hit in helmet by errant throw from Brewers catcher Victor Caratini

Marvin Gonzalez of the New York Yankees walked out early Saturday afternoon after a throw from Milwaukee Brewers catcher Victor Caratini hit him over the head in the batter’s field.

Gonzalez hit in the third inning of their game at American Family Field and stood in the box waiting for Caratini to go to throw the ball back to pitcher Brandon Woodruff.

Caratini’s throw, however, hit Gonzalez squarely on his helmet, causing the helmet to fall to the ground and Gonzalez tripping.

The throw was clearly accidental, and both Caratini and the referee immediately ran after Gonzalez to make sure he was okay. He was examined for several minutes before eventually being taken out of the game.

“He’s fine,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. via network YES. “Took a pretty good picture, better than I thought, he had a nice mark on his face when I went out there to check on him. The coaches just felt that at that moment he needed to get out of there … I don’t think it’s something that will break him.

The Brewers scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning after Willie Adams landed a deep shot on Jameson Tylon over the left field wall. Although Josh Donaldson hit his own homer in the fourth, Christian Yelich hit an RBI triple in the fifth to seal a 4-1 win with just four hits.

The Brewers have won seven of their last nine games, including two over the Yankees. They will end the three-game streak with New York on Sunday afternoon.
